OUR LIEBSTER AWARD NOMINATION
We are truly excited to share with you that we have been nominated for the Liebster Award by Lauren from Here is Better and Lauren from Trend-mixblog; we cannot help but share our enthusiasm and express our gratitude every time we feel that our work is appreciated. This award is actually an excellent opportunity to learn more about the bloggers whose websites we are following, and discover new, interesting voices among the blogosphere.
Following the rules, we have posted ten random facts about us and answered the ten questions.
Ten Random Facts About Us
Alexandra
I am a fearless (amateur) horseback rider, although I cannot ride a bike.
I am a major comic book collector – “Little Lulu” and “Betty & Veronica” are on the top of my list.
I still use a BlackBerry and I have never ever owned an iPhone.
I can still fit in the clothes I wore in middle school; they are the same clothes that I have been wearing tirelessly.
My favorite book is “Matilda” by Roald Dahl.
I am a huge supporter of eco fashion, meaning I refuse to buy high street; I live in my mother’s old clothes, I shop fanatically at vintage stores and – depending on my monthly budget – designer boutiques.
I am a devoted cat person.
My favorite movie is “Finding Nemo.”
I hardly wear make-up or perfume, or get manicures.
I hate cheesecake, which seems to be everybody’s favorite desert lately.
Nadia
I do not wear perfume, because it gives me a headache; instead, I opt for body lotions, out of which – I can certainly say – I am building up an extensive collection.
To me, happy shopping spree equals with buying new nail polish. If I haven’t gotten a manicure, then there is definitely something wrong.
I still play on my Game Boy; the one that was released in 1989.
I love smelling post-it notes, while quickly going through their tiny pages.
I am not shy to admit that, while studying in Paris, I visited the Louvre four hours before my flight back home; Sundays were dedicated to wandering around vintage stores in Μarais.
I cannot leave the house without my carmex in my bag.
The older I get the more fond of white chocolate I become.
I have always been jealous of people who put their thoughts on paper. That’s why you will always find numerous notebooks in my handbag; each and every one of them is empty, though.
I always feel a bit wiser every time I read De Profundis by Oscar Wilde.
Every time I hear Katie Morosky Gardner’s (played by Barbara Streisand in the movie “The Way We Were”) line: “Your girl is lovely, Hubbell…” my heart melts. Do I need to mention that it is my favorite movie of all time?
Our Answers
1. What got you started blogging?
I guess it was the perfect timing; at that time, I was thinking to start my own website to put my work out there. A few days later, Nadia – whom I had only known for a couple of months – pitched me with the same idea. Things have moved smoothly ever since. Neither of us were that ambitious, when we started, but we have been finding ourselves coming up with a number of ideas every day, that we will hopefully be able to put into action in the near future.
2. What does fashion and style mean to you?
A: Fashion is about the others, style is all about you; what you think, how you feel and how you interpret trends. Style is about an innate ability to inspire and mesmerize with your appearance. Both require great creativity and a vivid imagination, though.
N: Fashion is constantly changing, style is steadily evolving; it stems from your influences and – almost quoting Coco Chanel – what makes you different, hence irreplaceable.
3. Describe your style in three words.
A: Eclectic, classic, tailored.
N: Minimal, French-chic, understated.
4. What inspired the name of your blog?
We wanted something French, because for us fashion and style are closely associated with Parisians. Nadia came up with the name, because there is two of us and assorties (which means “matched”) is a concept that you come across a lot in fashion. Plus, we liked the fact that the initials, la, coincide with the definite feminine article.
5. What is your secret talent?
A: I can play the guitar; I took classes for six years.
N: Knitting – it is an inherited talent, actually.
6. Favourite blog (and not your own)?
A: Costume Fashion History, a website documenting the history of fashion by century.
N: The Business of Fashion, because it combines fashion and entrepreneurship.
7. If you could have anyone’s wardrobe, whose would it be?
A: Ashley Olsen (minus the exotic skin handbags and shoes, and fur coats)
N: Olivia Palermo (suede thigh-high boots, chiffon midi skirts, leather pants, tailored blazers)
8. Most embarrassing fashion faux pas?
A: Probably being a fashion victim in my teens.
N: Wearing my blouses inside out? I have no idea!
9. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
A: Paris!
N: Once in Paris, always in Paris.
10. If you could only save ONE item from your wardrobe, what would it be?
A: A vintage Chanel handbag, gift from my parents for my graduation.
N: A vintage Hermes scarf that belonged to my grandmother.
