“The name is a combination of Venus and onyx — a planet and a stone,” Eugenie Niarchos explained Harper’s Bazaar, as she introduced her new jewelry line. Eugenie, who has previously collaborated with jewelry designer and close friend Gaia Repossi, based her debut collection on reptiles, which she came to adore, after having watched tons of National Geographic Channel documentaries (That makes two of us, Eugenie! Who would have thought, right?).

Prehistoric predators (Nilioticus and Serpens), chameleons and turtle shells; each is actually a different symbol: transformation and change (chameleon), renewal of life, rebirth and healing (reptilian serpens), heaven and earth (the turtle shell: the shell’s dome is a symbol of heaven, its lower shell is a symbol of earth). In Venyx World, everything is about texture, attention to detail and exquisite craftsmanship: reptile skins available in silver, gold, rose gold are elaborately decorated with precious stones; diamonds, sapphires, amethysts and topazes to name a few.

And as I’m known for my weakness for fine jewelry, I couldn’t help but fall for the blue chameleon ring with the rainbow-colored gemstones; after all, you can never go wrong with a cocktail ring!
