Thanks to their clean and sleek design, and striking colours Hemsley London handbags are sure to be quickly adored by street style stars all over the world.

A London College of Fashion graduate and winner of the Premium Young Designers Award Spring/Summer 2014, Hemsley worked opposite to Roland Mouret and Sophie Hulme, before starting her own eponymous line Hemsley London. Her design genius lies in creating high-quality, stylish handbags (they are crafted with Italian leather) cut to meet the needs of the modern woman; as Hemsley puts it herself, she designs bags “with everything built in for people who have a chaotic lifestyle like me.” Her range of handbags and backpacks has an exciting construction – from convenient pockets and a detachable coin purse to a small mirror, card holder and even secret compartments for iPads and tablets (see her Buckingham tote and Derby backpack) – that gives the pieces their groundbreaking functionality.

However, it is not only the innovation of her designs that made her rise to prominence; last month, she debuted The Hemsley Slice at London Fashion Week. Seemingly a mere fashion accessory, it is actually a cleverly disguised lunchbox, which unfolds to reveal one of the most misunderstood yet utterly important part of the modern diet held inside a square wallet: a sandwich. A spokesman for the Federation of Bakers, which commissioned the creation of the limited-edition bag, highlighted the loss of interest and absence of sandwiches in the modern diet due to the domination of extreme food trends: “Due to fad diets, women have forgotten about the benefits of eating bread. We want to remind women that sandwiches are a healthy, nutritious lunch option, and that they are back in fashion,” an effort that Jayne Hemsley found particularly stimulating: “I love making sandwiches at home, because I know exactly what I’m putting in them, so I know I’m eating a healthy lunch. The idea to do this in style really inspired me.”

Hemsley joins the team of emerging designers who hope to make a difference not only through their work but also their ethics: offering innovative fashion products and delivering a conscious message. We cannot wait to get our hands on the Buckingham tote, which we will be wearing with our favorite pencil skirt in the office.
